COVID 19 Smart Safety Checks

How can African Americans and other people of color be convinced that COVID-19 vaccines are genuinely protective against COVID-19 virus and not harmful in view of the past history of using vaccines as a weapon against African Americans. It will be recalled that in 1932, unknowingly to African Americans, the U.S Government in what is termed as the Tuskegee Study, injected male African Americans with the disease instead of the Syphilis vaccine in an effort to render black males impotent and prevent them from procreating.

I think that for African Americans and Africans alike need a robust health outreach/ education about the benefits of vaccines especially COVID-19, and how the vaccines can protect them against the virus. They will need to be shown an efficacious proof that indicates other black people that have taken the vaccines survive the virus. On the hand, I really don’t blame them for casting doubts on the vaccines because of the long history of African Americans being used as a Guinea pigs in the past. As for me, I will take the vaccines. Data has shown that it is 95% safe, and effective. Nevertheless, data will need to be collected prospectively to ascertain if there are any adverse effects or safety issues arises from the vaccines.

  3. I think I agree with Dr. Wilson because certain lack of proper education might hinder people from accepting vaccines. Health education will go along way to create awareness and refute some culturally held beliefs against vaccines.
